#PPEtoProtect

Our supporters contacted their MPs and helped us get the personal protective equipment (PPE) we needed during the coronavirus pandemic.

I feel safer wearing PPE, knowing we can care for our patients - but we use a LOT. We're always in need of more.

Katherine Burnett, Clinical Lead Nurse, Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh

What was the issue?

Since the start of the coronavirus crisis Marie Curie staff have been on the frontline, caring for dying people in the community and in our hospices. But at the start of the pandemic, we couldn't get all the personal protective equipment (PPE) we needed to keep the people we care for, their families and our staff safe.

Why did this matter?

Every day, we had to cancel some nurse visits because we didn't have PPE everywhere it was needed. This was heart-breaking, and could have left vulnerable people without the crucial care they needed. Those who missed out on our care would also have been more likely to visit A&E at a time that hospitals were stretched to breaking point.

What happened?

We urgently needed the government to act so that we, alongside the NHS, and other essential workers, could get the PPE we needed to protect our patients and frontline staff.

We were incredibly grateful that over 3,000 of our supporters contacted their MPs and helped ensure we received regular supplies of PPE from the government.
