Scottish Ambulance Service and Palliative Care ECHO Network

The network aims to develop a community of practice between Scottish Ambulance Service clinicians and palliative care professionals. Register to the network here.   

Objectives

  • Develop a community of practice between Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) clinicians and palliative care professionals.
  • Increase access to education and allow sharing of practice amongst SAS clinicians and palliative care professionals through a virtual platform.
  • Deliver expert education addressing key palliative care learning needs identified by SAS clinicians.
  • Provide networking and peer support opportunities for SAS clinicians to allow experiences to be shared and reflected upon when caring for people nearing end of life.

Curriculum

The curriculum setting session took place on 24 August 2023 and the topics agreed for the network are below.

The group will meet on the second Monday of every month via Microsoft Teams at 10am from 9 October 2023.

    • About the dying process
    • About treatment/management option
    • Difficult conversations
  • Palliative care emergencies and their management
  • Just in case medication and frequent uses
  • Anticipatory care planning +/- palliative care pathways
  • Emergency Hospice admissions and who to contact in palliative care for support
  • Palliative care at home – what can the SAS achieve
  • Self-care, managing professional grief
