Solihull Care Homes Community of Practice Network

The University Hospitals of Birmingham (UHB) Support to Care Homes team (S2CH) and Marie Curie established a network to support staff working in Solihull-based care homes.

Objectives

  • To develop and improve upon the confidence and knowledge of care home staff in providing quality care for residents at the end of life, in their preferred place of care.
  • To develop and establish community of practice across the participating care homes in Solihull.

Curriculum

The network ran 11 sessions between April 2021 and October 2021. Topics included:

  • communication and advanced care planning
  • identifying and care of dying residents
  • Supportive Care Register and Gold Standards Framework
  • co-ordinating holistic care
  • dignity and compassion
  • anticipatory planning and syringe drivers
  • verification of death
  • bereavement
  • self-care and wellbeing
  • dementia and end of life care.
