Marie Curie in Wales

We provide care and support for more than 3,500 people living with a terminal illness in Wales each year.

What we do in Wales

Marie Curie is the largest independent provider of end of life care and the largest charitable provider of hospice care beds in Wales.

As well as nursing and expert hospice care, you'll find Companion volunteers and Marie Curie charity shops across the country. We also do policy campaigning and we're the largest charitable funder of research work to improve end of life care.

Hospice care at home

There are around 150 Marie Curie Nurses working in Wales, caring for around 2,400 terminally ill people and their families in their homes each year.

Hospices

The Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale, in Penarth, cares for around 1,000 people each year, including people staying in the hospice and those coming in for the day to use the hospice's services.

Day services

Marie Curie Wales Day Service is available to any adult affected by a terminal illness. You don't have to be staying in our hospice, or accessing any of our services to receive support. Our day services are free for people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones. We have a range of sessions to choose from to support you, from carers' café's to complementary therapies. If you'd like more information or you'd like to register for a group, please phone 029204 26046 or email WalesDayServices@mariecurie.org.uk.

Wales Bereavement Information Support Service (BISS)

Marie Curie and Diverse Cymru are working together to improve access to bereavement support in Wales. Through the Wales Bereavement Information and Support Service (BISS) project, Marie Curie and Diverse Cymru will build on existing bereavement services provided by Marie Curie to make sure more people in Wales are able to get the support they need when someone dies.

We want to work in partnership with local providers in Wales. If you are an organisation or community group in Wales that is making a difference to people affected by bereavement from terminal illness, or works with people who are facing barriers to getting support, please contact us to discuss partnership opportunities.

Read our press release to learn more about the partnership between Marie Curie and Diverse Cymru.

Funding

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our services are offered free of charge to people with any terminal illness. We need to raise around £4.5 million a year to fund our hospices and nursing care in Wales.

Campaigns

We campaign on behalf of people living with a terminal illness and their families, to make sure they can access the high quality care they need when they need it most.
